Why are Conexim and TN3 listed first? Are they paid ads? If so, they should be marked (although that really isn't an appropriate place for ads). If not, why aren't they in alphabetical order like the others?

Which begs the question; why aren't the Business Members with linked names, randomly listed?

Yeah, that's why Bam & Eduka get more enquiries than me, it's all just alphabetical ;)

That can be put to the volunteer development Sub-committee.

Could you be a little more specific?

Tea to get to #1 on that list is easy no need to put in 1'a or A's - btw I got told off when I changed our name to web design perth :p - perhaps in that part of the system only allow the TA name and/or the Incorporation name and don't allow it to be editable.. So eduka solutions t/a web stuff people and not eduka solutions web stuff and more web

So is that list automated or done by hand? Why can't you discuss it?

Alfreido
08-12-2008, 02:10 PM
Since Gary said it was an 'indexing error' - and I have no reason to believe that typos are now called 'indexing errors' - I think it's a safe bet to say it's automated. :)

tealou
08-12-2008, 02:13 PM
errr I don't think it's a grand conspiracy... why should Gary explain more than he has?

Ashul, it never occured to me to put anything more than the truth, which is what I trade as. I should have gone with my original business name, which was "Awesome" - but it was already taken heh.

kay

Correct, there is no grand conspiracy!

We've discovered an oversight in validation of records that came from an older version of our database that affects the ordering of the names, and until the underlying issue is fixed once and for all there's no point telling everyone what it is exactly or you'll all go and try it out.

Besides, I think if Franki paid the AWIA committee to put him at the top of the list, we would have at least got enough out of him to retire to a tax-free data haven in the Cayman Islands. We'd be sipping margaritas on the beach, not hanging out on these forums.

As it is, unfortunately, we're all still here :)

Also, if your main source of enquiries is the AWIA member listing page, you might wanna rethink your marketing strategy :)

Thanks for the sarcastic replies.

And for assuming we are all so desperate that we would bother to game the AWIA.

This was all that was required

Thanks for nothing Alex! Now I have to go and find another list that sends 2 visitors per month to hack (or pay) and place myself at the top

Your initial post implies a lot of stuff, maybe you would have received less sarcasms if the post merely point out the oversight?

Why did you bother in the first place? You can try make me look petty all you like, but you are the one who actually tried to exploit this.

Franki

exploit what exactly?

(btw and purely FYI, I added more stuff to my reply while you were replying)

alex

Don't know, its so super top secret no one will tell me exactly how to do it.

Your initial post implies a lot of stuff, maybe you would have received less sarcasms if the post merely point out the oversight?

No it doesn't, it asks if it was a paid advertisement or an error. I would assume that the Australian Web Industry Association were capable of ordering a list alphabetically, hence the possibility that it could be a paid placement.

Franki
08-12-2008, 03:13 PM
Man, you got a lot nerve throwing accussations around when you yourself don't know what you're talking about (exploit). Didn't Gary and Kay already provide an answer as to why the list was funky?

Now look who's using sarcasm.

Your query was answered, alex, it was a bug and it is in the process of being quashed. It's out of your control but at least you've alerted the people whose control it is under. Just let it go.

Actually no he didn't. The closest was Kay's respone:

This implies that the system can be exploited in a way which allows a user to bypass the alphabetical ordering.

Ok, let's take a time out and everyone take a step back to their corners.

Alex - While I understand you wanting to question why those two were at the top of the list, once you got an explanation that was appropriate, was there a need to probe further?

If the committee went "oh, you do xyz to get to the top" there's someone that's going to try it.

You've had a response now that your happy with and perhaps it's best if everyone just leaves this thread alone now.

Now look who's using sarcasm.

I wasn't being sarcastic, I was providing you with a logical series of steps in my head that lead to me deducing that it is possible that the ad was paid for. The fact that you interpret it as sarcasm is interesting though.
