The West Australian Screen Award nominations were released last month and February brings WASA Wednesdays; the screenings of each of the nominated films.

The bad news is that if you're just heard about this then you've missed all the screenings except for the last one which'll be next wednesday.

The good news is that last screening happens to contain a short film called Tinglewood that I've been working on as the single, solo, only, lonely visual effects guy for over 4 minutes of photo-realistic 3D character animation, compositing and all that sort of technical thing.

Despite the film not being in a final state it was nominated for 5 Early Career WASA Awards, among them was myself for Best VFX.

There are also a bunch of other short films showing although I'm not sure if any of the other ones have legions of 3D monsters bent on eating human flesh ... but you can certainly watch, enjoy and vote for whichever film you enjoyed the most as part of the Peoples Choice award.

So ... if you want to support either W.A. Film or Myself, both being extremely trendy things to be over-heard discussing, then you can find out the details at the WASA website (http://www.wascreenawards.com/screenings/).

And on a final note if you need 3D illustration or animation done ...

I think the tone mapping is a bit off ... the shadows are a reasonable match for the guy who's been cropped out of the image :)

Critics everywhere...

did a few years of arts and film & tv, way back when, but not 3D specifically. I think the shadows around the hand and head gave it away, especially when the key light is that bright

:p

Yeah, used a single physical sun shader to save time. match to the sunlight in the shots was just approximated (same with gamma). It was just a randomly chosen photo from set for the BG, most of the actually film work for Tinglewood uses IBL from HDR panos shot on set and other lights matched to grey balls.

I'll be putting some up on my site in a couple of weeks :)
