We'll be at Fibbers McGee, Leederville (http://maps.google.com.au/?q=Fibbers%20McGee,%20Leederville) (probably in the back beer garden, trust me, you'll notice us) this Thursday, 19 March 2009 from 5:30pm

Also, if anyone wants to turn up that doesn't speak Ruby but just loves coding, please do come along for a chat.

Alternatively, if we want, I can arrange for us to use the WA Barista Academy for the meetup, which would allow us to actually have some presentations/discussions about Ruby/Rails/Whatever, which would push the meetup more in the direction of the Sydney RORO meetups.

What does everyone think? Would this be a good thing? Or are you just keen to meet in the pub?

PS I'll buy beer if it's at WABA :)

This would be great! Is it in the CBD?

I'm not sure if it would be worth it for this meet with little notice for possible presenters? Anyone want to do a presentation?

It's at 135 Lake St, Northbridge (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=135+Lake+St,+Northbridge&sll=-31.93108,115.81153&sspn=0.014733,0.020728&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=17&iwloc=addr)

I agree that it's short notice for presenters, but maybe a quieter environment will be more conducive for impromptu demo's and the like?

I need to confirm the space, so can I get a HooHa from those who are coming?

HooHa (?)

Sounds good Jordan, if you want to arrange that it would be fantastic.

I know Myles won't be here this month as he has to be somewhere else but I imagine there's at minimum 5 of us with some more I'm not sure on.

edit: what's the parking like around there?

jordanbrock

Parking is a potential problem, but there's free street parking to be had. I'll confirm and book the space.

I would just like to raise my little flag and say that every Thursday 5:30 is difficult for me. Earlier like 3pm would be fine, or another night like Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday. I don't expect it to be changed for 1 person, but if anyone else has a problem with it, please speak up.

Otherwise, I'm really keen for a ROR meetup.

Gary

We've had this discussion before and for other members of the group Thursday was the best day. Friday is inherently difficult as it's when lots of other stuff is on.

Wednesday is pretty popular as well (Port80, AWIA committee meetings, other groups)

I can't remember what the problem was with Tuesday - We'll have a chat on Thursday about what other days would suit people that are their (ie. if they have other days available)

The venue is confirmed. So, see you all there:

WA Barista Academy
135 Lake St, Northbridge.

Huzzah on the new venue!

I can talk on scripting MacRuby applications on the front end using Javascript powered by Rhino running in conjunction with jruby via a drb interface ALL used to screw around data from a restful web interface.

Or you know, I could also drink beer.

I'm trying to knock up a quick talk on Rails 2.3.2 - unsure if that will eventuate in time as a couple of sites I've been working on are going live this week

Sutto - you can drink beer and present...thanks for offering to talk :D

I will be presenting a meta-talk, in which I replay a RoR discussion I had with Jordan over breakfast at Sayers last Thursday morning. 2:30 hours of pure intrigue. I'm working on an interpretative dance routine to complement the audio, but time is short so I'll see.

@alexpooley: It's cool, I'll do the dance.

@all, there's no projector or any of that action, but I suppose we can look into that when we all gather.

well, if people weren't coming before they are def. coming now :D

@jordanbrock - I can probably get us a projector...

I'm completely new to Ruby... can I just come and listen? :)

Just my luck, I'll be in Melbourne. Typical. I COULD go to the Melbourne one, or I could just continue with my power-holiday. I pick the latter.

We encourage it

We strongly encourage it.

We don't actually talk 100% about Ruby or 100% about Rails, we go off on tangents, end up on odd topics and then move on.

If you have any questions about Ruby (or a framework sitting on top thereof), everyone at the meeting will no doubt be willing to help.

we have a projector and screen now
