If you’re driving, there’s plenty of parking next door and across the road. Check Transperth (http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/) for public transport options.
See you there!

I'd love to come, but have committed to attend the 140 Friends party. :( Will see you all in March!

this 140 Friends party is putting a lot of people in hard position of which event to attend.

I guess it comes down to free drinks vs free pizza :)
Seriously though, it's a shame that this clash has happened, but Port80 has been the first Wednesday of the month for years. I, and I'm sure some others from the AWIA committee will be at the Velvet Lounge regardless for anyone who won't be attending the 140 Friends event.
I don't even know what the 140 thing is. Am I that out of the loop? Or did only the cool kids get invited?

LOL It's the Media140 Perth pre-event launch party
I would say its a case of people at media140 not being aware of Port80, after all it doesn't get much promotion such that a non AWIA would know about it
Um no seriously... what is Media140 Perth? Some kind of conference? I've never heard of it.

... it'll be my first time.
I'm coming along and will be bringing a few other Ruby guys from work. We've been meaning to make the time for a while, and now that we're looking to hire a designer (http://forums.port80.asn.au/showthread.php?t=13636), I thought the Port80 meetup might be a good opportunity to meet the right people.
Are there any talks or presentations planned, or is the focus more on socialising over beers?

Kay, Media140 is a conference about the "real time web". It has a PRish perspective (marketing and branding).
It is an international event but each location has different speakers and program.
The conference proper is on 25 Feb at the Perth Town Hall. AWIA members get a 15%(?) discount.
The launch party (called 140Friends) is at Black Tom's on Wed from 6:30pm.
The clash is shitty because I want to go to both. And I'm selfish like that. Imagine an event with free drinks AND free pizza! *ahem*

Since no one has yet, here's the link to the conference (http://media140.com/perth/) and the link to the pre-party (http://www.amiando.com/Perth140Friends.html).
Sold out on the pre-party though.

That would be the AWIA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in August :)

Not heard of any talks this month, Committee can clarify, just beer and pizza!

Sorry, I meant to answer that question in my last post. There are no talks scheduled for tonight.
