[color=#000000:post_uid0]The next Online Services Interest Group (OSIG) seminar on Benefits Management in IT Projects will be held on Tuesday October 21st (9.00am - 11.15am).
The workshops are a practical and helpful way for OSIG members to meet in person, discuss relevant issues, share information, and keep up to date.
Overview of Presentation
Information technology (IT) projects are implemented to provide benefits to the organisation. However, few organisations have a defined process for managing the benefits of IT projects, yet most believe there is significant scope for improving the management of IT project benefits.
Australian companies spent $23.7 billion on IT in 2001 and most of them only had a vague idea of why. Consequently, senior management expresses doubts about the real benefits of IT projects. Paradoxically, senior management find themselves in a difficult situation as they struggle to justify the benefits of implementing IT projects and at the same time they cannot afford not to invest in IT for competitive reasons. For this reason organisations are turning their attention to actively managing the benefits of IT projects.
Peter Bennington is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Government Employees Superannuation Board and has over 18 years experience in the management and implementation of IT projects across a diverse range of industries. Peter is a foundation member of the Perth Chapter of the Project Management Institute, a member of the Australian Computer Society, possesses a Bachelor of Business degree in Information Processing and completed a Masters of Science in Project Management at Curtin University of Technology in 2002.
Peter will outline the process of project benefits management and the results of his research into the application of benefits management in IT projects across Perth. The information was gathered from structured interviews with twenty-five IT project managers from twenty-five Perth based organisations.
