We are looking for a Website Developer and online all-rounder to join our digital team. You will be working with a small group building online and digital media solutions for a broad range of clients. The candidate needs to be well organised, self motivated have great communications skills.
Ideal candidates would be experienced in:

- HTML, CSS, PHP, Javascript, AJAX, Flash, Action Script & XML

- SOFTWARE: Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator

- Knowledge of APIs (e.g. Google, Facebook) is desirable but not essential

- Understanding of connectivity between the Flash front end and backend systems

Also:

- Contribute to the design and development of our portfolio of 14 websites.

- Build the user interface and database architecture to support the input and manipulation of data

- Work closely with our small team of web professionals to implement new features

Mentoring

In case you haven't realised by now, I have a Grand Plan which involves me sitting in my comfy chair and pointing to AWIA peeps and telling them to do stuff. Particularly complicated and insane stuff.

This particular stuff is a mentoring scheme.

We could get experienced web practitioners to nominate themselves as mentors (they'd list the stuff they're particularly good at - but mentors DON'T need to be experts, just willing to help, guide, encourage and all that cool stuff).

Then a whole bunch of AWIA n00bs could nominate themselves and say what they're looking for in a mentor.

Theeen, some clever person or computer could play match-ups and set up a loose arrangement.

There'd be basic guidelines for how it should work but most should be up to the individual mentors and mentees involved. It could start with a trial and then could extend if it doesn't suck.

People who sign up should commit to 3 months or some other arbitrary time we decide but if it really sucks an individual mentoring relationship could be dissolved earlier by mutual agreement.

There would be many advantages in doing something like this:
- it would position AWIA as more of an industry group and less of a social group
- It would give invaluable insight to the mentees
- It would help develop the mentors' leadership skills
- It'd let people who've been successful to give back to the community and make the web a better place

I've posted the idea on twitter and we have some interested people already.

So, um, get to work.

Freelancer project - Illustrator? Perth based

I have an interesting project that needs someone who is good with Illustrator and who understands perspective or isometric angles, and possibly an appreciation of architecture or building design.

There's tracing involved but it also needs a creative head that can interpret the base image into a clean vector representation with its own style.. if you know what I mean...

Kinda hard to explain, but this would suit a freelancer/grad/student and if the first project is successful, there will be ongoing work.

Preferably in Perth. Please get in touch if you're interested or know anyone who fits the bill!

Hyperlinking swf files

Hi all,
Ive been looking through tutorial after tutorial, googled to death, and just can't find an answer, so Im hoping someone here can help?

When hyperlinking a swf file I place a transparent box on the top layer of the fla file and apply this action to that transparent box to creat a hyperlink:

on (release) {
getURL("http://www.rmysite.com.au", "_blank");
}

Then export movie to an swf.

That works fine, but I can't work out how to provide an alt tag to the same swf file, so anyone clicking the swf, although its hyperlinked, and they can see that, they cant see where it will be taking them.

Would anyone know how to include an alt tag to a hyperlinked swf file please?

Two domain names, one website

Sorry about this if it's a duplicate question. I couldn't find a similar question/answer in this forums history.

I have two domain names and I have them both pointed and working on one website. If I were to submit both domain names to google, would they penalise me and would there be duplicate content i.e. double-ups of every page.

I am trying to get a swf file to send variables to a php file and then have the php file return a variable and display it within a dynamic text field however everytime I run it, I get the following error:

This thing is pretty badass too. How many times have you wondered what people are looking at on your designs? In Uni, we learned the "squint test" where you squinted your eyes up and noted what "popped out" first.

It's automated, so not perfect, but really, really useful in just about everything web, imo.
