For anyone who wasn't there on Friday night or following along on Twitter, the winners have been announced on the site:

http://www.webawards.com.au/news/wa-...ding-web-site/

List of all finalists and winners: http://www.webawards.com.au/winners/

Congratulations to all winners and finalists, especially Equilibrium and the Museum, who scooped the pool :)

As the first year that the WA Web Awards have been the Australian Web Awards, there was still quite a strong WA presence - I think over here we're just used to entering everything that we've done, whereas the Eastern States were more cautious. Still, one quarter of the entries and one third of the finalists were from outside WA.

Here's hoping next year is an even truer representation of Australia's web talent.

I know all the cool kids say their thank youse on the twitter these days but I'm old skool and just want to extend a big thankyou to AWIA committee, the speakers, the sponsors, Red horizon and everyone else for putting on another awesome EOTW :)

I was fearful that EOTW09 could turn into that dreaded second album but you guys exceeded expectations and produced something that dare I say was akin to Radiohead's the Bends.

Keep up the top work guys and catch yas next year :)

Yes that's right folks, for a limited time only - until midnight (AWST) on Monday November 2 - we are slashing prices on three of the Edge of the Web workshops: Alex Payne from Twitter on the Twitter API, Scott and Cheryl Gledhill's Beyond SEO, and Lachlan Hardy's Rapid Prototyping.

All workshops are held at the UWA Club and include a delicious catered lunch. You don't need to be coming to the conference to go to a workshop.

Register now!

Twitter Platform In-Depth - with Alex Payne from Twitter
November 6, 8.30am-12.30pm, lunch included

FIRE SALE PRICE: $150

You can't get much more 'straight from the horse's mouth' than this - Alex Payne, Twitter's own platform lead, will guide you through the suite of APIs that Twitter provides. Anything you can do as a user of Twitter can also be done through your code with an API - and then some!

Some web development experience for attendees is recommended - but the workshop won't focus on any particular language or platform.

This is a fantastic opportunity so if you've ever thought about developing some kind of application that uses Twitter, don't miss out on this workshop!

Rapid Prototyping - Lachlan Hardy
November 6, 1.30pm-5.30pm, lunch included

FIRE SALE PRICE: $150

Lachlan Hardy, creator of WebJam and at least a thousand other super cool projects, show how to use lightweight building blocks like JQuery, YQL, and Sinatra to prove concepts and find failure faster.

This is a coder's dream - as Lachlan himself says "it's not a talky workshop" - so bring your laptops and prototype along with Lachlan in your own language of choice, whatever that may be.

Beyond SEO - Thinking Past the Quick Fix - with Scott and Cheryl Gledhill
November 6, 8.30am-5pm, lunch included

FIRE SALE PRICE: $300

Scott and Cheryl Gledhill of Molt:n Digital and pinch/zoom show you how search engine optimisation should be integral to every stage of building or marketing a web site or web application.

Helen from AWIA attended this workshop when it was run in Sydney for Web Directions South 2009, and this is what she had to say about it:

"Scott and Cheryl Gledhill's workshop 'Beyond SEO' was an eye opener for this developer. The workshop showed me how much I already did know about Search Engine Optimisation, through general good practice. This workshop breaches the borders between designers, developers, and marketing spheres through real world examples.

Scott and Cheryl provide an entertaining way to learn the "rules of SEO" as well as explaining how it is not one person's responsibility. I left feeling as though my current knowledge and practice was extended into a new playing field, whilst still being valued."

In fact, Webjam is coming next week on Thursday night (during Edge of the Web week) - we've spoken about it in previous posts, but so far a lot you slack buggers haven't RSVP'd :P

For those who didn't attend the last Webjam in Perth (which had some pretty awesome presentations if I do say so myself), Webjam is basically an evening of clever people showing off awesome things and trying to do it in just 3 minutes.

After that, you vote, using that fancy telephonic communication device and a winner is crowned.

There is limited space available and just rocking up on the night doesn't guarantee you a spot inside - what better way to wind down from two days of learning at Edge of the Web 2009* than to watch your colleagues from the industry blow your minds away with new ideas.

Pop over to http://webjam.com.au and register to attend (or, even better, present - we'd love to see the clever things your working on!!!) - do it soon though!

See you 7pm next Thursday at Webjam 11 - UWA Tavern, Crawley

* Because you've all bought your Edge of the Web tickets haven't you - if not, do it now...please :)

Counting down...

The committee are quite literally beside themselves with excitement: only two weeks to go until Edge of the Web 2009 is unleashed.

We've been busy little bees too, finalising details for sponsors, speakers and all our lovely attendees. And oh so many social events (some of which we're talking about below).

This week, our fabulous coffee sponsor Five Senses are giving away a free ticket on Twitter! Check out what you need to do below...

Get the 'Coffee Edge' with Five Senses

Five Senses are our 'Coffee Edge' sponsor - they provide all the coffee, milk and expertise to keep the whole place humming for the entire two days, and we love them for it.

They're also giving away a free ticket to one lucky coffee-lover as well as $100 worth of their scrumptous product.

To find out what you need to do to enter, check out the details on their web site.

Get Jammin' at WebJam 11

WebJam 11, run by the awesome team of Lachlan Hardy and Lisa Herrod, will be held in Perth on Thursday, November 5 (that's after the closing drinks). It's going to be at the UWA Tavern, so only a short walk away from the venue.

If you've never been to one before, a WebJam is a fast-paced, fun event where presenters have three minutes to present their great idea, project or concept to the crowd. Everyone gets voting and the winners get fame, adoration of their peers and sometimes great prizes too.

Right now, WebJam is looking for attendees, presenters and sponsors too, so definitely sign up on the site now and if you're keen, give presenting a go too! If you're looking for tips, here's an interview with serial WebJam presenter Nick Cowie on what makes a great WebJam presentation.

Fringe Events

As well as WebJam, there's heaps of fringe events running the week of the conference - from freelancer's coffee, the regular Perth Port80 event, Adobe User Groups breakfast, and much more! There may even be a social rock climbing event in Northbridge too - keep checking back for details.

View details of Edge of the Web fringe events

Australian Web Awards Dinner

The biggest fringe event of the lot is the Australian Web Awards dinner on Friday 6 November. The event is billed as "black tie - with a web twist" which really means that almost anything goes! Attendees enjoy a delicious three course dinner at the Novotel Perth Hotel Langley and during the night, the winners of the Australian Web Awards will be announced. There's a rumour there's going to be dancing this year too - not to be missed!

Check out photos from last year's WA Web Awards to see what kind of thing you're in for, check out the list of finalists, and get your tickets now.

Got your ticket?

if you don't have your Edge of the Web conferece and workshop tickets, don't delay - events like this can only run with the support of members of the community. AWIA members receive discounts as always.

Register for the Edge of the Web conference
