Default campaign monitor optional

afternoon! I have a client who has a list of subscribers numbering around 1300. The mailing list module that I have developed for them is nothing compared to campaign monitor, and they would prefer to use something like CM for their large mailouts..

however...

obviously CM will cost them every time they send, and sometimes, they will just want to send to a smaller number, or different subscribers.

So, the question is, is it possible to have the regular php sign up form on the site, and when a subscriber fills it in, it updates the site database, then sends the details to CM to add them into the mailing list there?

Or do they have to have one or the other? Thoughts appreciated

Yep. They have a pretty comprehensive API, which you can access. But first, let's do some maths.

Let's assume you are charging them $50/hr to do the work, and it will take you between 3-5 hours to get a BASIC email newsletter system built that may or may not include unsubscribing, and almost certainly won't include stats or any cool stuff that CM gives you. So it's gonna cost them $150/$250 to get the system sorted.

1300 subscribes = $US18/campaign. Let's pull some averages, and say that your time costs them $US180 - that is 10 campaigns they can send before CM becomes more expensive than you.

And they still don't have statistics or anything cool like that.

Dude: $18 per campaign. It's cheap as.
