That's an excellent great way to look at validation, but then again I'm biased because that's how I've always view validation as

On a similar note, Jeffrey Zeldman posted an interesting article last week about a web standards/validation test he recently ran.

Why don't we just throw away object oriented-programming and start using GOTO statements again while we are at it...

02 PRINT FLAKEY SITE
03 SAVE VAR PAYMENT
04 ABORT FLAKEY SITE

I always make sure our sites validate before being put live - because it's not hard to do. Unfortunately you can't guarantee what a client will do with their content afterwards.

Funnily enough, Firebug reports 3 warnings on the w3c site, with malformed URIs

i actually think he distilled it really well with:

Validate your HTML. Know what it means to have valid HTML markup. Understand the tooling. More information is always better than less information. Why fly blind?

Nobody cares if your HTML is valid. Except you. If you want to. Don't think for a second that producing perfectly valid HTML is more important than running your website, delivering features that delight your users, or getting the job done.

so we don't throw away OO and go back to GOTOs because -we care- about that stuff, just like our site's validation. just don't expect the client or the customers to.

Yeah, that's my point - customers don't care, but what they do care is that we know what we are doing.
